So You Want to Produce Off-Broadway . . .

It's almost time to start welcoming a new group of students to the 2013-2014 NTSA team! Just a reminder: we're still looking for playwrights from colleges and high schools across America. If you have a full-length script that you think might be ready for production, email us at If your script is selected, you'll travel to NYC for the summer where you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with directors, designers, and actors as you develop your script. The experience culminates with the world premiere of your play in a prestigious off-Broadway theater. Scripts are due on October 25, 2013.

We're also currently looking for students to join our Producing Team. This group of entrepreneurs comes together once a week to produce an off-Broadway play. On any given week, they may find themselves:

• Writing press releases for newspapers and magazines
• Drafting grant proposals for foundations
• Filming and editing interviews with cast and crew members for the NTSA website
• Identifying, researching, and meeting with prospective donors
• Scouting high school productions across NYC for new talent
• Hosting information sessions for prospective cast and crew members
• Planning and executing donor cultivation events (concerts, cocktail parties, etc)

Producers are the visionaries working behind-the-scenes to make everything that you see onstage possible. They're the ones with the artistic know-how necessary to coordinate and communicate with the creative team throughout the production process. They're also the ones with the business savvy necessary to engage prospective donors and press/media contacts, peaking their interest in the production. The best producers are the ones that take true ownership of the production -- that are there from the moment the script has been selected to the moment the reception wraps up on opening night.

This year, our Producing Team will have the opportunity to work with mentors on a weekly basis. As established professionals in the NYC theater community, our mentors will make sure that all producers have the knowledge and resources necessary to succeed. However, unlike in a traditional internship, our producers aren't handling small administrative tasks (like entering donors into databases or stuffing envelopes). Our producers are responsible for making all of the company's key decisions regarding marketing, development (fundraising), and company management. If you're looking for rigorous hands-on experience that also includes exceptional training, then come join the NTSA Producing Team.

We're looking for two college students to lead our marketing/publicity and development departments. We're also looking for four high school students to manage projects in marketing, development, and company management. All positions come with a small stipend.

Applicants should email a cover letter and resume to Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.

Looking forward to seeing you in our brand-new conference room later this year!
